Major Project - Afterthoughts
Afterthoughts
Originally this project was about how we all felt about leaving university, what roles we would play in the future and our aspirations, which would lead us to them. To a certain extent this is still the case, the final piece and the word used had a great deal of meanings to me, and I expect many others who choose to look at it in that way. The idea behind it is still the reaction to the fear and uncertainty that we are going to face in the future, but it has taken on new meaning to me, and I have no doubt that other people will see their own meanings in it too.
(Forgive me if you think this is a sob story, it was in now way meant to be one.) The past year has been difficult for me and presented itself with constant struggle. The final piece reflects this and although unintentional at first the problems that have been on my mind seem to have manifested themselves in my work. The black card on the floor represents uncertainty, the unknowing of what is to come, I have also thought of it as hopelessness, the future and as a representation of fear throughout this project.
The letters going into or coming out of the Black (its up to you to decide for yourselves) represents to me a number of things. The first is us, as students being thrown into the future, without a clue about what might be facing us. The next is about my own personal struggle, I have often felt like I have been sinking into despair and now that I am looking back at this project I feel as though this may be a representation of my own most inner most thoughts. Jokingly when asked what the word “SHIT!” was meant to represent by onlookers to this work I have responded with “my life”, but this is not so far from the case, I now see the final piece to this project as a representation to my struggle, the only difference is that I no longer feel like I am sinking instead I am looking upon the letters rising out of the darkness after the struggle.

Curent Project - SHIT!
A self-reflection project, which looks at my own personal feelings about leaving university as well as contributions from other students met with the same dilemmas. The final word is used to describe the panic which myself and various other fellow students are feeling as the pressure and stresses of the constant uncertainty of what the future holds for us all is met with huge work loads and fears about whether we will make it in the creative industry.
This is some of the experimentation work.
A short film about a purse and some coins
This animation was created in stop motion by myself using objects found in my handbag.
